Strength in Asking Campaign for International Men's Day 2024
A new campaign announced during Mental Health Month in October encourages young men to seek help with their mental health.
Strength in Asking is an initiative of Men’s Health and Wellbeing WA with support from the Mental Health Commission. The social media campaign encourages young men to share an experience online or to offer advice to their younger self using the hashtag #strengthinasking.
“We know that men are not opening up to their friends and family as much as women do, and we know they seek professional help at a much lower rate,” said Men’s Health and Wellbeing Chair John Rich.
“This translates into them experiencing poorer mental health outcomes, and a much higher suicide rate than women. With this Strength In Asking campaign, we want to make sure guys are sharing their problems and asking for help when they need it, which will lead to significantly better outcomes for them.”
The official launch for the campaign will be held at a breakfast in WA on the 6th of November, where high-profile guests will join a panel to discuss mental health and young men. Find out more
These include the Hon. Hannah Mary Beazley MLA, Minister for Youth, WA 2024 Young Person of the Year Oliver Lim and Terry Melrose from the Regional Men’s Health Initiative. View panellists.
Organisers want the campaign to reach as many young many as possible for International Men’s Day on the 19th November.
Men’s Health and Wellbeing WA is the peak independent not-for-profit charity organisation dedicated to representing and promoting the health and wellbeing of boys and men in Western Australia.
