New storytelling event for men launching for International Men’s Day
An initiative by Tim Hewson, founder of Mongrels Men, is inviting men to stand up, take the stage and share their truth.
Launching on November 24 as part of International Men’s Day, His Story is a storytelling event for men, by men — one that promises to flip the script on the stories men have inherited about what it means to be a man.
The event’s theme, “Inherited Myths – Rewriting the Stories We’ve Been Told,” sets the tone for an evening that’s equal parts raw, heartfelt and uplifting. Hosted by comedian Al Del Bene, His Story isn’t a comedy show or a typical “blokes’ night out.” Instead, it’s a space where vulnerability is celebrated, and men from all walks of life share the moments that shaped who they are.
On stage will be six storytellers — Hayden Westwood (Adventurer & Advocate), Marty Bright (Comedian, Artist, Musician & Poet), Aaron Huey (Tradie Coach), Gareth Robinson (Wellbeing & Communication Coach), John Broadbent (Man Unplugged), and Paul Stevens, known as The Singing Caddie.
These men will take the microphone — with just eight minutes each — to tell deeply personal stories that reveal their lessons, struggles, and triumphs. His Story invites attendees to 'ditch the couch, grab your crew and settle in for a night that hits harder than a cold schooner on a hot day'.
“Every man has a story. A story worth sharing and a story that we can all learn something from,” says Tim.
“Aligning with the 2025 International Men’s Day theme of Supporting Men and Boys, ‘Inherited Myths: Rewriting the Stories We’ve Been Inherited’ invites us to pause, reflect, and dismantle the stories we carry - passed down through generations, time, culture, and expectation.”
Tim says His Story is a perfect night for workplaces looking for something with heart. Corporates are encouraged to book tables for their teams, offering a shared experience that sparks real conversations well beyond the office.
The purpose of His Story runs deeper than one night of storytelling. His Story seeks to redefine masculinity and build stronger, more connected communities of men.
Each event aims to create a “brave space” — where vulnerability is valued as strength, voices are heard, and men are empowered to open up. It’s about men inspiring other men, breaking down stigma, and proving that courage often begins with honesty.
According to the initiative’s mission, His Story is designed to “inspire honest conversations, real connection and positive change across generations of men through storytelling.”
A portion of every ticket sold will go to Mongrels Men, the community-based charity founded by Hewson to prevent, reduce and control the occurrence and impact of suicide and mental health illnesses and disorders impacting Australian men.
Tickets to His Story are $45 (including GST) plus booking fee, with limited availability.
