Men’s Sheds back International Men’s Day

Around 20 Men’s Sheds in WA are opening their doors to their local community to mark International Men’s Day (IMD) which takes place on Saturday 19 November 2022. 

The IMD Men’s Shed events are being held with the help of funding from Men’s Sheds of WA, the peak body for sheds in Western Australia.

While most of the events are taking place on the actual day, some of the IMD celebrations will take place either in the run up to the day or during the following week. 

In Australia, the International Men’s Day theme for 2022 is “Celebrating Mateship”, which aims to inspire more men to #MakeTime4Mates. Mateship is an important pillar of every Men's Shed which provide male-friendly spaces for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates and connect shoulder-to-shoulder. 

A number of Sheds are hosting open days. These include York Men’s Shed, which is inviting all men in York and their families to take part in an IMD social event and barbeque lunch, with an opportunity to experience the great facilities which cater for men of all ages and abilities. 

Similarly, Cranbrook Community Men’s Shed is hosting an open day for community members incorporating the opening of its social room, which provides a “non-workshop” space.

The Shed in Northam will celebrate the different cultures and origins of its members and community guests and providing food from around the world. They will also use the day to promote their regular Men's Health events, which include guest speakers on topics including dementia, diabetes, diet and nutrition.

The Brunswick Junction Men’s Shed is celebrating International Men's Day with an event that brings together different local communities for an afternoon of activities and games (called the Not-So-Seniors Olympics) followed by a BBQ. The aim of the day is to celebrate mateship and camaraderie between men of all ages and abilities.
