How Local Councils Can Support International Men's Day

There are more than 500 local councils in Australia which means there are hundreds of opportunities for local government to celebrate International Men’s Day (IMD) on Monday 19th November 2018.

One local council that’s leading by example is Northampton Borough Council in England. This year, the council has launched a “Male Role Model of the Year Awards” to recognise the important contributions local men and boys make in their community, families, schools and workplaces.

The winners of the Male Role Model of the Year Award and Young Role Model of the Year Award will be announced by the Mayor of Northampton, at a special event to celebrate IMD.

The event will include information stalls from local agencies, health checks, entertainment and a fundraising “cycleathon” to support the Papyrus charity that aims to prevent youth suicide.

Any local councils in Australia looking for inspiration for ways to mark IMD can find out more at the Northampton Borough Council website.

If you want to see your local council marking International Men's Day, why not contact your local councillor and encourage them to support the day.
